Northern Kentucky Group is one of 6 groups in the Kentucky Chapter of Sierra Club.  We are your neighbors and friends in Boone, Bracken, Campbell, Carroll, Fleming, Gallatin, Grant, Harrison, Kenton, Mason, Pendleton and Robertson counties.  Our group was formed in 1982.  We hold free monthly informative meetings, support local efforts to protect natural spaces, promote public awareness of important environmental issues in our area, participate in community gardens and local environmental cleanups, and offer an “outings” program of local nature hikes, trail service, bike hikes, paddling trips and more.

Kentucky Chapter’s Bluegrass Group covers counties south of us.  Greater Louisville Group is to our southwest.  Miami Group in southwest Ohio is to our north, part of the Ohio Chapter.  Winding Waters Group in southeast Indiana is our Sierra Club neighbor to our northwest, part of the Hoosier Chapter.  Each group is led by local volunteers who develop and run programs of local interest and concern.  

Sierra Club is a nationwide organization founded in 1892 by John Muir, a famous naturalist and conservationist who helped inspire President Theodore Roosevelt's conservation programs like the establishment of Yosemite National Park and our first National Monuments.  Muir was Sierra Club's first president and held that office until he died in 1914.  Sierra Club went on to encourage the establishment and expansion of our National Parks and National Wilderness Preservation systems.  We also have a long history of advocating for less pollution and environmental degradation.  It’s our  mission to EXPLORE, ENJOY & PROTECT our planet.  To learn more about our history and accomplishments, click here. 

To join or donate to the national Sierra Club, find the two red buttons on this page. Memberships and donations to the national Sierra Club help support its national and regional programs. However, local Sierra Club groups like Northern KY Group rely on local donations to fund our local programs. Cash or check donations may be given to chairs and leaders at our meetings, outings and other events. If you'd like to mail us a check or money order, please email ExCom at northern.ky.sierra.club@gmail.com to get private mailing instructions. (Such donations are not tax-deductible.) If writing a personal check or money order, please make payable to ‘Sierra Club, Inc.’ Note ‘NKY Group Donation’ on the check's or money order's subject line.
